Video Consultations are working just fine.

Our past experience of communication with patients over phone calls/video calls when they wanted to follow up from other locations is helping now.

Online consultation results during lockdown have been good so far.
It's also good to see that many authorities  and associations worldwide are looking at online consultations as best way to reduce workload on hospital departments.

It is gaining momentum and trust slowly.

Physical well being needs care from physical health specialists

Human body has a great scope of recovery from pain.

Sometimes all you need is right guidance.

Treatment is not always necessary.

Various healthcare professionals try using fix dose of electrotherapy as it may be done for medication. PT works with a more flexible approach and electrotherapy is not the only treatment that PT offers.

Consult a Physio practitioner before taking a scan and before thinking of surgery.

Physical assessment by PT may simplify your diagnosis and treatment.

Trust your body and trust your Physio.

Exercise based physical rehabilitation is a slow but sure way to minimise relapses or recurrence of symptoms in most of the physical health conditions.

Preventive PT

Many people who can afford or who have health insurance coverage have become regular with health check ups.
We all know these tests include many things but not much of this directly relates to physical assessment.
When anyone develops slow onset knee arthritic pain or low back pain we must understand that we have missed out on that preventive phase where well regulated physical activity may have delayed the onset if not completely prevented it.
Physical Health though related to general physiological and other health parameters, is on it's own a big challenge to be maintained.
Visit your Physio for timely assessment if you see any changes in your physical abilities or if you have any kind of pain. Visiting your PT for an ultrasound therapy after you are already on a pain killer medication and expecting miracles when you have already booked a knee/ spine surgery date is exactly the way some of our cities letting pollution to reach it's peak before looking for solutions.
PTs may still be able to help you in these conditions but this is lot more stressful for both you and your PT.
In this, what may not work well is that you expect a certain defined pattern of recovery as described to you by non PT healthcare professionals. Medicine prescription may work in a fixed way but exercise prescription needs every day improvisation. So a PTs way of seeing a problem may be variable and you must trust that.
Also every patient must be aware of the phenomenon of over diagnosis which is applicable to both general health and physical health.

Physio - practice beyond present perspective.

There's always a conflict between ' being successful' and 'seen as successful'.
Physiotherapy in India is already moving towards ' being successful' in treating and managing  many health issues in a way that is cost effective , side effects free and has lasting effectiveness.
It is a field of work where exercise prescription based on knowledge of modern medical sciences can be used as prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
It's a science which is deep rooted into research based evidence. If anyone really understands importance of exercise in modern lifestyle perspective, he/ she would know the importance of Physiotherapeutic exercise plan over any other form of exercise plan. It is case specific and patient specific.
This is also a field of work which can help in community based physical rehabilitation using limited resources.
Importance of planned exercise schedule in managing mental health issues is also well documented.
In a country like India we must look for taking Physiotherapy to heights where no other country may have done so that we can ensure that many of the modern day  health issues are resolved within the cost limitation and before complications develop.
This is a time where many nations are challenging notion of necessary versus unnecessary surgeries.
Physiotherapy is being brought to the forefront in result oriented approach to reduce usage of medicine and surgeries wherever possible.Recent research papers are helping the cause.
In such scenario rather than trying to adopt regulations which were adopted by these countries decades ago and on a verge of change now, we must jump ahead and look into the futuristic evaluation of Physiotherapy. We should move from Physiotherapist to 'Physio Practitioners'.
An integrated course like Doctorate in Physical Therapy needs to be introduced to reassure professional competence. This shall also avoid confusion regarding practice principles of PT among other medical professionals and patients. An integration approach towards existing professionals may be used to keep them at same level as future professionals.
It is also important that to mettle our integrity Physio practitioners must refrain from any unethical practice.
Showing flamboyance within our own fraternity is easy but to prove to the world we must first highlight that our basic science has the scope and charisma to take the challenges of this vast health care arena.
Once we do that, Physiotherapy will be 'seen as successful'.
